20 April 2013: Members of the Group will be taking part in the Slipstream poetry event at Pulborough Village Hall on 20th. April, 2.0 - 5.0 p.m. Readers and poets in our slot to include Joyce, Teresa, Fay, Rilla, Finola, Violet and Virginia. Fay will also be reading her poem
'All Hallows Eve: Church of St. Francis, which received a 'Commended'
in the West Sussex section of the Slipstream 2013 Poetry Competition.
The Chanctonbury Cup will be awarded to the winner of this section.
October 2012: Finola Holiday's poem 'Penfriend' was published in 'SOUTH' magazine No. 46 and read by at the gathering held in Reading Central Library at the launch night for the new issue on 17th October. A good gathering of poets attended despite the very inclement weather. See "Members' work 2012".
September 2012: Fay Marshall's poem 'Sorted' has been accepted for 'Acumen' magazine 74. Her poem 'Stalkers' has won third prize in the Excel 'Building Africa' competition, 2012. See "Members' work 2012" for both poems.
18th May 2012: Worthing Art Gallery
C.W.G. members Finola Holiday, Violet Ainscow, Rilla Dudley and Fay Marshall read their poems at the SWAG (Sunny Worthing Arts Group) Jubilee event. Finola came first in the Jubilee competition (see Members' Work 2012) and was presented with her prize after the reading of the winning poems. 'South' poetry magazine, issue 45, May 2012. Finola is the profiled poet in this issue and the subject of an article by Fay, with her selection of 16 of Finola's poems. Finola took part in the readings at the launch in Havant on 23rd May.
April 2012: SWWJ Competitions
Finola Holiday and Fay Marshall received Commendeds in the Society of Women Writers and Journalists' annual Elizabeth Longford poetry competition, with 'For an old Oriental Rug' and 'Stalkers' respectively. Fay also received Commended in their Clarence Dane Cup monlogue competition, with 'To a Teenage Boy with a Navy Anorak and Grubby Jeans'.
21 April 2012: Slipstream Poetry Competition
The annual open Slipstream poetry competition was judged this year by Fay Marshall. There were 330 entries, and the winners came from all round the UK. Finola Holiday's poem 'How it ended in tears' won a Commended (judging was strictly anonymous!). The awards event was held at Pulborough Village HAll on the 21st of April, with a programme of music and readings. Group members Fay, Finola, Rilla and Violet read their own work, and Joyce read a poem by Virginia, who was unable to be present. At the conclusion, Joyce presented the Chanctonbury Cup to the winner of the West Sussex section of the competition, Clifford Hughes of Burgess Hill. For more details see slipstreampoets.co.uk
